A fire from Buthayna gleamed before your eye.

So your eye's tears flow freely and abundantly.

    تَأتي بِهِ وَتَسوقُهُ الأَقدارُ

    And love at first is obstinate persistence;

The fates bring it forth and drive it on.

Until, when the youth plunges into passion's depths,

Grave troubles come that cannot be borne.

There is no companion fond of her companion

Without her companion's bond coming to an end.

And if you wish—and no keeper of secrets will betray you

    Until disclosure spreads your story—

To conceal your secret, O Buthayn, then only

With the trustworthy are secrets kept hidden.
