لَهفاًalas! عَلىfor البَيتِthe house المَعَدِّيِّof Maʿadd لَهفاalas!
لَهفاً عَلى البَيتِ المَعَدِّيِّ لَهفا
مِنfrom بَعدِafter ماwhen كانَit had been قَدِalready اِستَكَفّاbecome complete
مِن بَعدِ ما كانَ قَدِ اِستَكَفّا
Alas for the Maʿaddite house, alas!
Yearning for the Medean house yearning
After it had already come to fullness.
After it had been self-sufficient
وَلَوand if دَعاhe called upon اللَهَGod وَمَدَّand stretched out الكَفّاthe palm
وَلَو دَعا اللَهَ وَمَدَّ الكَفّا
لَرَجَفَتwould surely have trembled مِنهُbecause of him الجِبالُthe mountains رَجفاa trembling
لَرَجَفَت مِنهُ الجِبالُ رَجفا
And had he called upon God and stretched out his palm,
Had he called on God and held out his palm
The mountains would surely have quaked because of him.
The mountains would have quaked with fear from it
