زورواvisit بُثَينَةَButhayna فَالحَبيبُfor the beloved مَزورُvisited
إِنَّindeed الزِيارَةَvisiting لِلمُحِبِّfor the lover يَسيرُeasy
Visit Buthayna, for the beloved should be visited.
Visit Buthaina, for the beloved is visited
Indeed, visiting is easy for the lover.
Indeed visiting those who love is easy
إِنَّindeed التَرَحُّلَdeparture أَنthat تَلَبَّسَbecame entangled أَمرُناour affairs
وَاِعتاقَناand held us back قَدَرٌfate أُحِمَّwas ordained بَكورُearly-coming
Indeed, departure meant that our affairs became entangled,
Undertaking this journey has clothed our matter
and an early-coming, ordained fate held us back.
And our liberation was a tightly wrapped fate
إِنّيindeed I عَشِيَّةَthat evening رُحتُI went وَهيَwhile she حَزينَةٌsorrowful
تَشكوshe laments إِلَيَّto me صَبابَةًardent longing لَصَبورُsurely steadfast
Indeed, that evening as I went, while she was sorrowful,
In the evening I left while she was sad
complaining to me of ardent longing, I was steadfast.
Complaining to me with enduring passion
وَتَقولُand she says بِتspend the night عِنديwith me فَدَيتُكَmay I be your ransom لَيلَةًone night
أَشكوI lament إِلَيكَto you فَإِنَّfor indeed ذاكَthat يَسيرُeasy
And she says, “Stay one night with me—may I be your ransom—
She said while I was leaving, I ransom you a night
so I may lament to you, for that is easy.”
I confide my complaint to you, for that is easy
غَرّاءُradiant مِبسامٌoften smiling كَأَنَّas though حَديثُهاher speech
دُرٌّpearls تَحَدَّرَcascaded نَظمُهُits stringing مَنثورُscattered
Radiant, often smiling, as though her speech
A flirtatious beauty, her words
were pearls cascading, their strand scattered.
Are like pearls flowing in loose prose
مَحطوطَةُsmooth المَتنَينِboth sides of the back مُضمَرَةُslender الحَشاthe waist
رَيّاfull الرَوادِفِthe haunches خَلقُهاher figure مَمكورُrounded and firm
Smooth along both sides of her back, slender of waist,
Slender in stature, shy in her glances
full in the haunches, her figure rounded and firm.
Delicate in her steps, her nature well-mannered
لاno حُسنِهاher beauty حُسنٌbeauty وَلاnor كَدَلالِهاlike her coquetry
دَلٌّcoquetry وَلاnor كَوَقارِهاlike her dignity تَوقيرُstately bearing
No beauty matches hers, nor is there, like her coquetry,
Her beauty is no mere beauty, nor her charm
any coquetry, nor stately bearing like her dignity.
Mere allurement, nor her dignity mere reverence
إِنَّindeed اللِسانَthe tongue بِذِكرِهاwith mentioning her لَمُوَكَّلٌsurely charged
وَالقَلبُand the heart صادٍthirsty وَالخَواطِرُand the thoughts صوَرُinclined
Indeed, the tongue is charged with speaking of her,
Indeed my tongue is charged with her mention
and the heart is thirsty, and the thoughts incline toward her.
My heart impassioned, my thoughts well-pictured
وَلَئِنand if indeed جَزَيتِyou repay الوُدَّthe affection مِنّيfrom me مِثلَهُits like
إِنّيindeed I بِذَلِكَof that ياO بُثَينَButhayn جَديرُworthy
And if you repay my affection with its like,
And if you reciprocated my love similarly
I am worthy of that, O Buthayn.
In that, O Buthaina, I would be deserving
