نَأَيتَyou went away فَلَمyet did not يَنأَgo away عَنهُfrom him الضَنىwasting sickness
نَأَيتَ فَلَم يَنأَ عَنهُ الضَنى
وَعُدتَand you returned فَعادَso he returned إِلىto نُكسِهِhis relapse
وَعُدتَ فَعادَ إِلى نُكسِهِ
You went far away, yet wasting sickness did not leave him;
You went away, yet wasting sickness did not leave him.
You returned—and back to him came his relapse.
You returned, and he relapsed.
وَفارَقَهُand deserted him الصَبرُpatience فيin يَومِهِhis day
وَفارَقَهُ الصَبرُ في يَومِهِ
لِماbecause of what فاتَهُhe missed مِنكَof you فيin أَمسِهِhis yesterday
لِما فاتَهُ مِنكَ في أَمسِهِ
Patience parted from him on this very day
And patience deserted him today
because of what he missed of you yesterday.
For what he had missed of you yesterday.
وَمُستَوحِشٍand a lonely one آنِسٍfinding solace بِالبُكاءِin weeping
وَمُستَوحِشٍ آنِسٍ بِالبُكاءِ
عَلىover قَلبِهِhis heart وَعلىand over إِنسِهِhis companions
عَلى قَلبِهِ وَعلى إِنسِهِ
And one left desolate, finding companionship in weeping
And a lonely man, finding solace in weeping
over his heart and his lost solace.
Over his heart and his companions.
