لَقَدindeed عَظُمَتhave grown grievous صائِباتُthe striking blows الرَزاياof calamities
لَقَد عَظُمَت صائِباتُ الرَزايا
وَأَودَتand has carried off بِصَندَلَwith Ṣandal كَفُّthe hand المَناياof death
وَأَودَت بِصَندَلَ كَفُّ المَنايا
The blows of calamity have indeed grown grievous.
Great afflictions have grown,
And the hand of death has carried Ṣandal away.
And the hand of doom has destroyed Sandal.
فَمنso who لِلبَوارِدِfor the cold dishes قَبلَbefore الطَبيخِthe cooked food
فَمن لِلبَوارِدِ قَبلَ الطَبيخِ
وَمَنand who لِلمبزِّرِfor the spiced fare قَبلَbefore القَلاياthe fried dishes
وَمَن لِلمبزِّرِ قَبلَ القَلايا
Who, then, for the cold dishes before the cooked fare?
So who is there for the raw meat before the cooking,
And who for the spiced fare before the fried dishes?
And who is there for the shredded before the frying?
