O sleeper, while the rose's breeze is awake,

In the cage's bonds, while the birds lament.

The rose is a guest, so do not neglect the honor due it.

And bring wine blazing in the cup.

May rain bless it, a visitor through whom souls come alive.

It generously grants union for a time, then withdraws.

Woe to a freeborn man who saw it while wealthy,

Yet did not fulfill, by drinking, what was its due.
