O Abu Faraj, I am lampooned in your presence, and wrong is done
Abu Faraj, I am maligned with you, while
to me, yet you neither defend me nor grow angry at that.
I am wronged, yet you do not protect me from that, nor get angry.
لَعَمرُكَby your life ماnot أَنصَفتَنيyou have treated me fairly فيin مَوَدَّتيmy affection
لَعَمرُكَ ما أَنصَفتَني في مَوَدَّتي
فَكُنso be مُعتِباًone who makes amends إِنَّindeed الأَكارِمَthe noble تَعتِبُmake amends
فَكُن مُعتِباً إِنَّ الأَكارِمَ تَعتِبُ
By your life, you have not treated me fairly in return for my affection.
By your life! You have not been just to me in my affection,
So make amends, for the noble make amends.
So reproach me, for the noble ones do reproach.
