ضاقَتhave narrowed عَلَيَّfor me وُجوهُavenues الرَأيof judgment فيconcerning نَفَرٍa group of men
ضاقَت عَلَيَّ وُجوهُ الرَأي في نَفَرٍ
يَلقونthey receive بِالجَحدِwith denial وَالكُفرانِand ingratitude إِحسانيmy kindness
يَلقون بِالجَحدِ وَالكُفرانِ إِحساني
My options have narrowed in dealing with a group of men,
The faces of opinion have narrowed for me among people
Who receive my kindness with denial and ingratitude.
Who meet my good deeds with ingratitude and disbelief
أُقَلِّبُI turn الطَرفَthe gaze تَصعيداًupward وَمُنحَدَراًand downward
أُقَلِّبُ الطَرفَ تَصعيداً وَمُنحَدَراً
فَماso not أُقابِلُI encounter إِنساناًa human being بِإِنسانيwith my eye's pupil
فَما أُقابِلُ إِنساناً بِإِنساني
I turn my gaze upward and downward,
I turn my eyes upwards and downwards
Yet I encounter no human being with the pupil of my eye.
But I do not meet a human with my humanity
