فَقَدتُI lost بِاِبنِwith Ibn دُرَيدٍDurayd كُلَّevery مَنفَعَةٍbenefit
فَقَدتُ بِاِبنِ دُرَيدٍ كُلَّ مَنفَعَةٍ
لماwhen غَداhe became ثالِثَthe third الأَحجارِthe stones وَالتُرَبِand the earth
لما غَدا ثالِثَ الأَحجارِ وَالتُرَبِ
In losing Ibn Durayd, I lost every benefit,
When Ibn Dureid was gone, all benefit went too
When he joined stones and earth as their third companion.
Since he turned to be but dust and stones.
وَكُنتُand I used to أَبكيweep لِفَقدِfor the loss of الجودِgenerosity مُجتَهِداًearnestly
وَكُنتُ أَبكي لِفَقدِ الجودِ مُجتَهِداً
فَصِرتُso I came to أَبكيweep لِفَقدِfor the loss of الجودِgenerosity وَالأَدَبِand letters
فَصِرتُ أَبكي لِفَقدِ الجودِ وَالأَدَبِ
And I used to weep earnestly for the loss of generosity;
I wept for generosity lost with great sorrow,
So I came to weep for the loss of generosity and letters.
Now I weep for kindness and wisdom also.
