وَقائِلِةٍ ما دَهى ناظِرَيكَ

وَقائِلِةٍ ما دَهى ناظِرَيكَ

فَقُلتُ رُوَيدَكِ إِنّي دُهيتُ

فَقُلتُ رُوَيدَكِ إِنّي دُهيتُ

And a woman asked, 'What has befallen your eyes?'

You said, What blinds your eyes?

So I said, 'Be patient; I have indeed suffered a calamity:

I said, Hold on, I have been blinded.

شَقَقتُ دَجاجَةَ بَعضِ المُلوكِ

شَقَقتُ دَجاجَةَ بَعضِ المُلوكِ

فَما زِلتُ أُصفَعُ حَتّى عَميتُ

فَما زِلتُ أُصفَعُ حَتّى عَميتُ

I cut open a chicken belonging to one of the kings,

I cracked an egg belonging to some kings.

so I kept being slapped until I went blind.'

Ever since I have been slapped till sightless.
