أَلا أَيُّها البَرقُ الَّذي صابَ وَدقُه

وَسارَت بِهِ في الجانِبَينِ الجَنائِبُ

وَسارَت بِهِ في الجانِبَينِ الجَنائِبُ

Ah, O lightning whose rain poured down,

and the southerly winds carried it along on both sides:

إِذا أَنتَ روَّيتَ المطيرَةَ مِثلَما

إِذا أَنتَ روَّيتَ المطيرَةَ مِثلَما

رَوينا بِهِ خَمراً فَحَقُّكَ واجِبُ

رَوينا بِهِ خَمراً فَحَقُّكَ واجِبُ

if you drench al-Matira just as

we drank our fill of wine there, then your due must be honored.
