قَد قَلَّلَ الإِدمانُ أَكلي فَما

قَد قَلَّلَ الإِدمانُ أَكلي فَما

أَطعَمُ زاداً قيسَ إِبهامِ

أَطعَمُ زاداً قيسَ إِبهامِ

Addiction has indeed reduced my eating, so I do not

Addiction has reduced my food intake, so

Eat even a thumb’s measure of food.

I no longer feed the thumb of Qays.

فَالحَمدُ لِلَّهِ وَشُكراً لَهُ

فَالحَمدُ لِلَّهِ وَشُكراً لَهُ

قَد صِرتُ مِن بائِدِ أَقوامِ

قَد صِرتُ مِن بائِدِ أَقوامِ

So praise be to God, and thanks to Him:

Praise be to Allah, and thanks to Him,

I now belong among the perishing peoples—

I have become free of the harm of people.

قَومٍ تَرى أَولادَهُم بَينَهُم

قَومٍ تَرى أَولادَهُم بَينَهُم

لِلجوعِ في حِليَةِ أَيتامِ

لِلجوعِ في حِليَةِ أَيتامِ

A people whose children you see in their midst,

People whose children among them

Through hunger, in the guise of orphans.

Are hungry, despite being adorned.
