إِذا ما البَخيلُ ثَوى في الثَرى
خَرِيshat وارِثوهُhis heirs عَلىupon حُفرَتِهhis grave
خَرِي وارِثوهُ عَلى حُفرَتِه
When the miser lies buried in the earth,
When the miser is laid beneath the sod
his heirs shit upon his grave.
His heirs fall out around his grave like dogs
هَوانُlow esteem البَخيلِthe miser عَلىin the eyes of أَهلِهِhis family
هَوانُ البَخيلِ عَلى أَهلِهِ
هَوانُlow esteem قُعَيسٍQuʿays عَلىin the eyes of عَمَّتِهhis paternal aunt
هَوانُ قُعَيسٍ عَلى عَمَّتِه
The miser is as despised by his family
The miser is despised by kith and kin
as Quʿays is by his paternal aunt.
Like Kuais who spurned his aunt’s advice and loving words
