يَطولُgrows long عَلَيَّfor me اللَيلُthe night حَتّىuntil أَمَلَّهُI grow weary of it
يَطولُ عَلَيَّ اللَيلُ حَتّى أَمَلَّهُ
فَأَجلِسَso I sit وَالنُوّامُwhile the sleepers فيin غَفلَةٍunawareness عَنّيof me
فَأَجلِسَ وَالنُوّامُ في غَفلَةٍ عَنّي
The night drags on for me until I grow weary of it.
The night seems endless until I grow weary of it
So I sit, while the sleepers are oblivious to me.
So I sit while the slumberers remain oblivious to me
فَلاfor not أَناI بِالراضيpleased مِنَfrom الدَهرِTime فِعلَهُits action
فَلا أَنا بِالراضي مِنَ الدَهرِ فِعلَهُ
وَلاnor الدَهرُTime يَرضىis pleased بِالَّذيwith what نالَهُreached it مِنّيfrom me
وَلا الدَهرُ يَرضى بِالَّذي نالَهُ مِنّي
For I am not pleased with what Time has done,
I am not pleased with what fate has done
Nor is Time pleased with what has come to it from me.
Nor is fate pleased with what it has got from me
