لا يُبعِدُ اللَهُ إِخواناً لَنا سَلَفوا
أَفناهُمُconsumed them حَدَثانُvicissitudes الدَهرِtime وَالأَبَدُand eternity
أَفناهُمُ حَدَثانُ الدَهرِ وَالأَبَدُ
May God not cast away our brothers who have gone before us.
God does not remove our brethren who passed before
Time’s vicissitudes and eternity have consumed them.
Destroyed by the vicissitudes of fate and time
نُمِدُّهُمwe reinforce them كُلَّevery يَومٍday مِنfrom بَقِيَّتِناthose of us who remain
نُمِدُّهُم كُلَّ يَومٍ مِن بَقِيَّتِنا
وَلاand not يَؤوبُreturns إِلَيناto us مِنهُمُof them أَحَدُanyone
وَلا يَؤوبُ إِلَينا مِنهُمُ أَحَدُ
Each day we add to their number from those of us who remain.
Each day we extend to them of our remainder
And not one of them returns to us.
Yet none of them returns to us again
