وإني من قوم يبين بطفلهم

And I am of a people in whose infant there appears

And I am of a people in whose infant one discerns

through inborn insight, the mark of leadership while still in the cradle.

By intuition the mark of leadership in the cradle.

إذا لم يكن لي ناصر من بني أبي

إذا لم يكن لي ناصر من بني أبي

فعزمي وحزمي يغنيان عن الحشد

فعزمي وحزمي يغنيان عن الحشد

If I have no champion from among my father’s sons,

If I have no supporter among my father's sons,

then my resolve and sound judgment suffice me in place of a host.

Then my resolve and prudence spare me the need for a multitude.

إذا أدرك العليا همام بقومه

إذا أدرك العليا همام بقومه

فنفسي تناجيني بادراكها وحدي

فنفسي تناجيني بادراكها وحدي

When a man of lofty ambition reaches the summit through his people,

If a valiant man reaches the heights through his people,

my soul whispers that I shall attain it alone.

Then my soul whispers to me of reaching them alone.
