    I have recited the book of time until it is as though I

    See yesterday [become] the last of the pages.

    So nothing new in life delights me,

    And nothing old that once delighted me is to come.

    And of a thousand, not a single peer remains to me

    In my birthplace, [when] I lost [my peers].

    And I truly long for those who have departed,

    And only my death will reunite us.

    فما يا ترى المشهود بعد مماتي

    And in this earthly world we have witnessed wonders;

    So what, I wonder, will be witnessed after my death?
