راقبي اللَه وردي الوغى لي

راقبي اللَه وردي الوغى لي

ضل عبد لم يراقب ربه

ضل عبد لم يراقب ربه

Be mindful of God, and ward off the fray for me.

A servant who has not heeded his Lord has gone astray.

قد نسيت اللب في أجرائك

قد نسيت اللب في أجرائك

أترى يعقل ناس لبه

أترى يعقل ناس لبه

I have forgotten reason amid your doings.

Do you think one who forgets his reason can understand?

أنا كاللاجئ من وجد إلى الكتب

أنا كاللاجئ من وجد إلى الكتب

إن قلب يظلم كتبه

إن قلب يظلم كتبه

I am like one seeking refuge from love's anguish in books:

If he turns their pages, he wrongs his books.

آكل النقل فإذ بي ساهياً

أمضغ القضر وأرمي لبه

أمضغ القضر وأرمي لبه

I eat nuts, and suddenly, absent-minded,

I chew the husk and throw its kernel away.
