ما كل ذي نقص سها عن نصه

ما كل ذي نقص سها عن نصه

Not everyone with a flaw is oblivious to his flaw;

Not everyone with a failing has overlooked his text,

لكنما من نقصه استهتار

لكنما من نقصه استهتار

rather, reckless disregard is one of his flaws.

but rather the one whose failing is recklessness.

يقوى ويعلم وهو يبدي لومه

يقوى ويعلم وهو يبدي لومه

He grows bold, knowing full well, even as he voices blame;

He grows strong and knows, while voicing his reproach,

فيطاول الأيام وهي قصار

فيطاول الأيام وهي قصار

thus he vies to outlast the days, though they are brief.

and so he vies with the days, though they are short.

ويسوقه الشيطان للغير دائما

ويسوقه الشيطان للغير دائما

And Satan drives him ever toward others,

And Satan always drives him toward others,

وعساه لم يطلع عليه نهار

وعساه لم يطلع عليه نهار

and perhaps no day has ever dawned upon him.

and perhaps no day has dawned upon him.
