دعاني القنوت إلى وحدتي

Devotion called me into my solitude,

Solitude called me to my oneness

I rejoiced, shutting my chamber

فرحت لها قافلاً حجرتي

فرحت لها قافلاً حجرتي

so I went to it, locking my chamber.

None was there except me and my yearning

With the best of prophets in my retreat

فما كان إلا أنا والهيا

فما كان إلا أنا والهيا

There was none but me and passionate love

My hours are richer when sharing with me

Knocking on my head with solitude

م بخير النبيين في خلوتي

م بخير النبيين في خلوتي

for the best of prophets, in my seclusion.

I judge myself for what has busied it

Inciting my heart against my repentance

أغنى تشاركني ساعي

أغنى تشاركني ساعي

I sing; my timepiece joins me,

O my soul, miss the love of all those

I was infatuated with in my heedlessness

تدق على الراس بالوحدة

تدق على الراس بالوحدة

ticking overhead with loneliness.

Lest I unleash my passion upon you

So God may reward you, my self-command

أحاسب نفسي على مليها

أحاسب نفسي على مليها

I call my soul to account for its inclination

He will clothe your body in the garb of grief

And give you to drink a draft from the chalice

لتأليب قلبي على توبتي

لتأليب قلبي على توبتي

to turn my heart against my repentance.

No water in it to wet the throat

But a spirit from Paradise

فيا نفسي فوتي هوى كل من

فيا نفسي فوتي هوى كل من

So, my soul, relinquish desire for everyone

And Abdul Rahim the cupbearer

Circling with it at the hour of rest

كلفت به فاتناً باللتي

كلفت به فاتناً باللتي

you adored as a charmer—do so gently.

Hearts are delighted, sorrows forgotten

Wrongdoing dismissed from the chosen ones

وإلا فإني أسلط شغفي

وإلا فإني أسلط شغفي

Otherwise, I shall unleash my passion

I seek God's forgiveness for the sins of my time

Wasted in heedlessness

لطه يجازيك أمارتي

لطه يجازيك أمارتي

for Taha, to requite you, my commanding soul.

I seek God's forgiveness for the crimes of my time

Obeying desires

فيلبس جسمك ثوب الضنى

فيلبس جسمك ثوب الضنى

It will clothe your body in the garment of wasting illness,

I seek God's forgiveness for all that

Violates my law among my nation

ويسقيك صرفاً من الخمرة

ويسقيك صرفاً من الخمرة

and give you unmixed wine to drink,

I seek God's forgiveness for all that

My eye was filled with from my neighbor

ولا ماء فيها يبل اللهاة

ولا ماء فيها يبل اللهاة

with no water in it to moisten the uvula,

I seek God's forgiveness for all that

Abu Murrah called me to

ولكن روحاً من الجنة

ولكن روحاً من الجنة

but rather a spirit from Paradise.

And for the anger of parents that

Leads children to misery

وعبد الرحيم كبير السقاة

وعبد الرحيم كبير السقاة

And Abd al-Rahim, chief of the cupbearers,

And for some family and kin

And ill nature among companions

يطوف بها ساعة الجلوة

يطوف بها ساعة الجلوة

makes his rounds with it at the hour of unveiling.

O Lord, be my guide on the path

The path of guidance, and answer my prayer

تنشى القلوب وتنسى الكروب

تنشى القلوب وتنسى الكروب

It intoxicates hearts and makes sorrows forgotten,

For the love of Muhammad and his followers

And the sheikh of the path and his family

وتقصى اللغوب عن الخيرة

وتقصى اللغوب عن الخيرة

and banishes weariness from the chosen.

Prayers be upon him, peace be upon him

The messenger of good tidings and mercy

فأستغفر اللَه مما أثمت زمان

فأستغفر اللَه مما أثمت زمان

So I seek God's forgiveness for my sins in the days of

انضياعي بالغفلة

انضياعي بالغفلة

my wandering, lost in heedlessness.

وأستغفر اللَه مما اجترمت

وأستغفر اللَه مما اجترمت

And I seek God's forgiveness for the sins I committed

زمان انصياعي للشهوة

زمان انصياعي للشهوة

during my submission to lust.

وأستغفر اللَه من كل ما

وأستغفر اللَه من كل ما

And I seek God's forgiveness for everything that

يخالف شرعي في أمتي

يخالف شرعي في أمتي

contravenes my religious law within my community.

وأستغفر اللَه من كلِّ ما

وأستغفر اللَه من كلِّ ما

And I seek God's forgiveness for everything

ملأتُ به العينَ من جيرتي

ملأتُ به العينَ من جيرتي

I feasted my eyes on among my neighbors.

وأستغفر اللَه من كل ما

وأستغفر اللَه من كل ما

And I seek God's forgiveness for everything

دعاني إليه أبو مرةِ

دعاني إليه أبو مرةِ

Abu Murrah called me to.

ومن غضب الوالدين الذي

ومن غضب الوالدين الذي

And for the anger of parents, which

يجر البنين إلى الشقوة

يجر البنين إلى الشقوة

drags sons into wretchedness,

ومن بعضة الأهل والأقربين

ومن بعضة الأهل والأقربين

and for hatred of family and close relatives,

وسوء الطباع لدى العشرة

وسوء الطباع لدى العشرة

and ill temper in companionship.

فيا رب كن لي دليلَ الطريق

فيا رب كن لي دليلَ الطريق

So, Lord, be my guide upon the road,

طريق الهدى واستجب دعوتي

طريق الهدى واستجب دعوتي

the road of guidance, and answer my prayer,

بحب محمد والتابعين

بحب محمد والتابعين

through love of Muhammad and the followers,

وشيخ الطريقة والعترة

وشيخ الطريقة والعترة

and the shaykh of the path and the Prophet's kin.

عليه الصلاة عليه السلام

عليه الصلاة عليه السلام

Upon him be blessings; upon him be peace,

رسولُ البشائر بالرحمة

رسولُ البشائر بالرحمة

the messenger of glad tidings of mercy.
