نعم المؤانس فليفتني السامرُ
As long as You, my Lord, are with me, I keep vigil.
As long as my Lord is with me, I remain wakeful
What a fine companion! Let the night-time talker pass me by.
What a pleasant companion! Let the night owl try to seduce me

An outpouring of mercies engulfs my solitude,
A stream of mercy engulfs my loneliness
so my soul goes forth, beholding and revealing itself,
And my soul shines forth and appears

then gentle, enchanting joy envelops it.
Enveloped in friendship, the charming enchanter

Displaying itself while its brightness surrounds me, dazzling

من أخبر الأفلاك أني شاعرُ
so I may utter my verse about it, scattering it—I wonder:
That I may say some poetry about it, I wonder
Who told the celestial spheres that I am a poet?
Who informed the planets that I am a poet

So I am the loving forgetful one, the rememberer

The heart has turned away from mortals; no longer is it
The heart has repented from worshiping servants so it no longer
that love-bewildered one whom wild-ox calves take captive.
Is that wavering, dull-witted one, stubborn

Stay awake, I will expose your disbelief in you

That the late regretful one may be granted

So when will the observer see the lamp in me

For wayfarers through life there are insights
For the travelers in life there are insights
through which destinies become fair on the Day of Reckoning.
With which on the Day of Reckoning fates are blessed
