وما كان كالمال من مفسد

وما كان كالمال من مفسد

وإن صلحت منه بعض النفوس

وإن صلحت منه بعض النفوس

And nothing has been as corrupting as money,

Wealth is not the corrupter that some suppose

even if some souls have been bettered by it.

Though through it some souls find righteousness

فنفس تراه أداة الرضى

فنفس تراه أداة الرضى

وأخرى تراه كنار المجوس

وأخرى تراه كنار المجوس

For one soul sees it as an instrument of contentment,

To one it is the instrument of pleasure

and another sees it as like the fire of the Magi.

To another it’s like the Magians' fire
