عف عما لدى اخيك تسده
Refrain from what your brother possesses, and you will be his master.
Turn a blind eye to what your brother lacks
No man is shamed except by begging
لاnot يذلabases الرجالmen إلاexcept السؤالbegging
لا يذل الرجال إلا السؤال
Nothing abases men but begging.
A brother knows without being told
The woes his kin are undergoing
ليسnot يخفىis hidden علىfrom أخa brother ماwhat أخوهhis brother
ليس يخفى على أخ ما أخوه
No brother is unaware of what his brother
So if he's truly virtuous
He'll help without being asked
يشتكيهhe complains of it وفيand in يديهhis two hands النوالbounty
يشتكيه وفي يديه النوال
complains of, while bounty lies in his hands.
فإذاthen if كانتis المروءةnobility of character فيهin him
فإذا كانت المروءة فيه
Then, if nobility of character dwells in him,
برhe gives generously منfrom غيرother than أنthat يكونthere be ابتذالabasement
بر من غير أن يكون ابتذال
he gives generously, without any abasement.
