    O you arbiter, whose rebukes are sent

    toward the fleet, clad in woodworm's cloak.

    I complain to you of your captain, that he may desist from injustice.

    He has been a burden, and all have wearied of his heavy chest.

    إن مَسَّ شَقِيَّ خُشبُ الفُلكِ قَلقَلَهُ

    He made me pass the night, my soul filled with vexation;

    if the ship's timbers touched my side, they jolted it.

    Fie upon that dark night, with its fierce black serpents!

    They felled the viper in me, leaving it motionless.

    Surely the old he-camel and aged she-camel, despite their arduous trot,

    are better for a bareback rider seeking to travel.
