O comfort of the heart, O preoccupation of the soul, join

A lovesick man whose world you are in both states.

Adorn the gathering, and flow through its corners

As grace whose fragrance envelops the subjects of grace.

You are a sprig of basil in a fruitful desert,

One of the fragrant plants with which God has greeted us.

If the wine’s cupbearer is absent or turns away, no trouble:

This beauty of yours—its countenance is enough for us.
