أَستَفغِرُI seek forgiveness اللَهَGod منfor عصرٍan age تَكنَّفَنيbeset me
فيهin it الخَبيثانِthe two evils منof جاهٍrank وَمنand of مالِwealth
I seek God's forgiveness for an age in which I was beset
I seek Allah's forgiveness from an era that surrounded me
By the two evils—rank and wealth.
In which the wicked of status and wealth enveloped me
أَستَغفِرُI seek forgiveness اللَهَGod منfor فَهميFahmi وَشيعَتِهand his followers
وَمنand for عباتيAbbati وَمنand for فخريFakhri وَمنand for غاليGhali
I seek God's forgiveness for Fahmi and his followers,
I ask Allah for forgiveness from my understanding and its followers
And for Abbati, and for Fakhri, and for Ghali.
From my gowns, from my pride, from my valuables
لَوif اِستَطَعتُI could رَكِبتُI would ride الناسَpeople كلَّهُمُall of them
إلىto الحجازِthe Hijaz رُكوبَthe riding of الراحلِthe departing traveler القاليthe one who loathes
If I could, I would ride upon all mankind,
If I were able, I would mount all of mankind
To the Hijaz, as a traveler departing in loathing.
To the Hijaz, mounting the saddled camel
