Indeed, princely rule has always remained with its rightful family,
proud and lofty in its foundations and summits.

مِنهم كبيراً للعلاء فَأَكبَرا
And the crown is reserved for them alone, choosing
from among them a great man for high rank, then a greater.

And the throne, if a noble man among them vacates it,
recalls their illustrious men and makes its choice.

O Husayn, love for you in people's hearts is certain;
devotion has revealed what lay hidden of that love.

So cherish it, for it is another kingdom,
if you wish for a fairer kingdom beside your kingdom.

by longing for you, even though it came late.

It did not pass your door in bygone days through forgetfulness;
rather, it lagged until it could come of age and grow great.

And what dispelled each heart's anguish after him
was that the cure for its suffering was ordained through you.

Rule from his right hand abides by the pledge which
the fairest of towns had exacted from him before.

And sacred law among the people forbids and commands;
God's judgment within it remains revered.

And the house is Muhammad's house; he built it
for his sons, excluding no group among them.
وَالعَمُّand the paternal uncle أكبرُgreater حِكمةًin wisdom وَدِرايَةًand understanding
وَالعَمُّ أكبرُ حِكمةً وَدِرايَةً
بِالأَمرِof affairs لوif only أَنَّthat المُكابِرَthe obstinate disputant فكَّراwould reflect
بِالأَمرِ لو أَنَّ المُكابِرَ فكَّرا
And the uncle is greater in wisdom and understanding
of affairs—if only the obstinate man would reflect.
حالٌa state of affairs إذاwhen نَظرَbeholds الأَريبُthe discerning man جَمالَهاits beauty
حالٌ إذا نَظرَ الأَريبُ جَمالَها

شكرَ الإِلهَ وحَقُّهُ أن يُشكَرا
Such is the state: when the discerning man beholds its beauty,
he thanks God, whose due it is to be thanked.
