ولمّاand when التَقَيناwe met قَرَّبَdrew together الشَوقُlonging جُهدهُwith all its might
ولمّا التَقَينا قَرَّبَ الشَوقُ جُهدهُ
شَجِيَّينِtwo sorrowing ones فاضاboth overflowed لَوعَةburning anguish وَعِتاباand reproach
شَجِيَّينِ فاضا لَوعَة وَعِتابا
And when we met, longing drew together with all its might
When we met, yearning intensified its efforts
Two sorrowing lovers, overflowing with anguish and reproach.
My burning sorrows and reproaches overflowed
كَأنَّas though حَبيباًa lover فيinto خِلالِthe recesses of حَبيبهِhis beloved
كَأنَّ حَبيباً في خِلالِ حَبيبهِ
تَسَرَّبَseeped أثناءَduring العِناقِthe embrace وَغاباand vanished
تَسَرَّبَ أثناءَ العِناقِ وَغابا
As though a lover, into the recesses of his beloved,
As if a lover, in the arms of his beloved
Had seeped during the embrace and vanished.
Had slipped away during an embrace, and was gone
