إذا ما دَعا داعٍ إلى الشرِّ مرَّةً

وَهزَّت رياحُ الحادِثاتِ قناتي

وَهزَّت رياحُ الحادِثاتِ قناتي

If ever a caller called to evil,

And the winds of calamity shook my spear-shaft,

ركِبتُ إليهِ الحلمَ خيرَ مطيَّةٍ

ركِبتُ إليهِ الحلمَ خيرَ مطيَّةٍ

وَسرتُ إليه من طريقِ أَناتي

وَسرتُ إليه من طريقِ أَناتي

I rode to him on forbearance, the finest mount,

And journeyed to him along the path of my deliberation.
