Have you stored up the radiance of full moons

    for nights of dense darkness?

Have you filled your eyes, before

parting overtakes you, with splendor and light?

Your palms are empty, save for

memory—and memory of what has passed is the poor man's provision.

Will you, I wonder, forsake me at the hour of

farewell, O heart, tomorrow—or be my ally?

Woe to you! Tell me, when shall I see you at my side,

    content with your forsaken place?

You are not one of the camel-drivers; rather, you are part of me.

Pause awhile, for you are no hireling.

O hour of parting, you are a fragment cut away

for lovers from the torment of the blazing Fire.

Do not come! My soul is ransom for whoever erases

you tomorrow from the page of destiny.
