Have you severed ties with Rama, or has her cord been renewed?

Or have you already tired of union with her, despite the separation?

Or how can you hope for a gift from a beloved

Whose affection draws near, yet who withholds her giving?

So I remain standing between contentment and anger,

Hoping for her promises and hating her stinginess.

So aim for the goal you desire, for you only

Fashion footwear—a sandal for each foot.

And if you obtain something desirable among the extra gifts,

Then grant its surplus to your nearest kinsfolk.
