وَصَلَarrived الكِتابُthe letter عَدَمتُmay I be bereft of عَشرَten أَنامِلٍfingertips
وَصَلَ الكِتابُ عَدَمتُ عَشرَ أَنامِلٍ
أَلَّفنَthey composed ماwhat فيهِin it مِنَof التَضمينِthe included material
أَلَّفنَ ما فيهِ مِنَ التَضمينِ
The letter arrived—may I be bereft of the ten fingertips
The book arrived with ten fingers
That composed the material included in it.
That authored its contents
ماhow كانَwas أَشبَهُresembling وَقَدand indeed عايَنتُهُI saw it firsthand
ما كانَ أَشبَهُ وَقَد عايَنتُهُ
بِوَثيقَةٍto a bond ظَهَرَتappeared عَلىagainst مَديونِa debtor
بِوَثيقَةٍ ظَهَرَت عَلى مَديونِ
How closely it resembled, when I saw it,
It was most similar, as I saw it
A bond produced against a debtor!
