O you who withhold the cup, the rose-steeds have arrived,

Gray and dark bay; pass it round, O you who withhold the cup.

I swear, the rose among all flowers

Is just as Salah al-Din is among men—

Who forever inherits glory from his forefathers,

As the caliphate is inherited among the sons of Abbas.
