O reproacher, how can a beloved forget me,

And I forget him, while a yearning soul remains in the world?

My tears remind him of the rainclouds’ downpour,

And flashes of lightning remind me of his front teeth.

O reproacher, how can I forget a kindred soul

Whose two cheeks matched the anemone,

And forsake wine, when he shares with it

Three things: an eye, a mouth, and saliva?

O reproacher, my patience has waned, my longing has grown.

I have borne of love what I cannot bear.

I bid him farewell and entrust him with a heart

Tormented by separation and the one who departs.
