جَفانيshunned me صَديقيmy friend حينَwhen أَصبَحتُI became مُعدِماًdestitute
وَأَخَّرَنيand set me back دَهريmy fate وَكُنتُand I had been مُقَدَّماforemost
My friend shunned me when I became destitute.
My friend abandoned me when I became destitute
And my fate set me back, though I had been foremost.
And time has delayed me though I was ahead
وَسافَرتُand I traveled جَهلاًin ignorance فَاِنعَوَرتُso I became one-eyed وَإِنand if أَعُدI go again
إِلىto سَفرَةٍa journey أُخرىanother قَدِمتُI shall come back عَلىupon العَمىblindness
And I traveled in ignorance and became one-eyed; and if I go again
And I traveled in ignorance so I stumbled though if I
On another journey, I shall come back blind.
Return to another journey, I would come blind
وَكَمand many مِنof طَبيبٍa physician قالَhe said تَبراyou will recover أَحبَبتُهُI loved him
كَذَبتَyou have lied وَلَوand even if كُنتَyou were المَسيحَthe Messiah بنَson of مَريَماMary
And I loved many a physician who said, 'You will recover.'
And how many doctors who said "Get well" did I love
You have lied, even if you were the Messiah, son of Mary.
You lied even if you were Jesus son of Mary
