أَماis it not آنَtime has come لِلغَضبانِfor the angry one أَنto يَتَعَطَّفاrelent
لَقَدindeed زادَhas increased ظُلماًin injustice فيin القَطيعَةِestrangement وَالجَفاand coldness
Is it not time for the angry one to relent?
Is it not time for the angry one to show sympathy?
Indeed, he has grown more unjust in estrangement and coldness.
He has increased injustice in estrangement and aloofness.
بِعادٌdistance وَلاand no قُربٌnearness وَسُخطٌand displeasure وَلاand no رِضىًfavor
وَهَجرٌand abandonment وَلاand no وَصلٌunion وَعُذرٌand excuses وَلاand no وَفاfidelity
Distance and no nearness, displeasure and no favor;
No closeness, only distance, no pleasure, only anger,
And abandonment and no union, excuses and no fidelity.
No connection, only separation, excuse without loyalty.
كَفانيis enough for me غَراماًlove’s torment كَالغَريمِlike a creditor عَلىamid النَوىseparation
وَعِنديand I have مِنَof الشَوقِlonging المُبرَحِagonizing ماwhat كَفىsuffices
Enough for me is love’s torment, creditor-like in separation;
My passion suffices me like the lover's on the fire,
And I have my fill of agonizing longing.
And in me is sufficient longing and distress.
تَكَدَّرَgrew clouded عَيشيmy life بَعدَماafter كانَit had been صافِياًclear
وَقَلبُand the heart الَّذيof the one whom أَهواهُI love أَقسىharder مِنَthan الصَفاsmooth stone
My life grew clouded after it had been clear,
My life is troubled after it was serene,
And the heart of the one I love is harder than smooth stone.
And the heart I love is harder than a rock.
فَياso, O خَدَّهُhis cheek لاnot زِدتَmay you grow إِلّاexcept تَلَهُّباًin blazing
وَياand O قَدَّهُhis figure لاnot زِدتَmay you grow إِلّاexcept تَهَفهُفاin slenderness
So, O his cheek, may you grow only more aflame;
O cheek, you have only increased my inflammation,
And O his figure, may you grow only more slender;
O neck, you have only increased my ardour.
وَياand O رِدفَهُhis rump لاnot زالَcease to be دِعصُكَyour sand dune مائِلاًleaning
وَياand O طَرفَهُhis eye لاnot زالَcease to be جَفنُكَyour eyelid مُدنَفاlanguid
And O his rump, may your sand dune forever lean;
O chest, your bosom is still inclined,
And O his eye, may your eyelid forever be languid.
O eyes, your eyelids are still downcast.
