أَقسَمتُI swore ياO لائِميmy reproacher فيمَنconcerning the one whom بُليتُI was afflicted بِهِwith him
أَقسَمتُ يا لائِمي فيمَن بُليتُ بِهِ
وَقَدand indeed تَحَكَّمhas exercised control فيover هَجريforsaking me وَإِبعاديand keeping me away
وَقَد تَحَكَّم في هَجري وَإِبعادي
I swore, O my reproacher, concerning the one with whom I am afflicted—
I swear, O blamer, by the one I've been afflicted with,
who has had his way in forsaking me and keeping me away—
And who has become unyielding in estranging me,
لَوif أَنَهُthat he كُلَّماwhenever سافَرتُI traveled وَدَّعَنيbade me farewell
لَو أَنَهُ كُلَّما سافَرتُ وَدَّعَني
بِقُبلَةٍwith a kiss لَمnot أَزَلI cease فيamong الرائِحِthe evening traveler الغاديthe morning traveler
بِقُبلَةٍ لَم أَزَل في الرائِحِ الغادي
that if, whenever I traveled, he bade me farewell
If he, whenever I traveled, were to bid me adieu
with a kiss, I would never cease journeying, evening and morning.
With a kiss, I'd forever be journeying happily.
