بِأَبيwith my father as ransom قَدُّfigure يَعيشٍYaʿīsh ("he lives") بِأَبيwith my father as ransom
بِأَبي قَدُّ يَعيشٍ بِأَبي
حينَwhen يَهتَزُّhe sways اِهتِزازَswaying القُضُبِthe slender branches
حينَ يَهتَزُّ اِهتِزازَ القُضُبِ
May my father be ransom for Yaʿīsh’s figure—my father!
When he sways as slender branches sway.
رَشَأٌa fawn حاسِدُهُhis envier ضِدُّthe opposite of اِسمِهِhis name
رَشَأٌ حاسِدُهُ ضِدُّ اِسمِهِ
وَإِذاand when ما(emphatic particle) عَكَسوهُthey reverse it مَذهَبيmy creed
وَإِذا ما عَكَسوهُ مَذهَبي
A fawn whose envier is his name’s opposite;
And when they reverse it, it is my creed.
