أَماDo you not تَرىyou see البَدرَthe full moon فيin السَماءِthe sky وَقَدand it has
أَما تَرى البَدرَ في السَماءِ وَقَد
حاوَلَsought مِنfrom بَعدِafter تِمِّهِits fullness نَقصَهits waning
حاوَلَ مِن بَعدِ تِمِّهِ نَقصَه
Do you not see the full moon in the sky, now that it has
Don't you see the moon in the sky, how
sought, after its fullness, to wane?
After being full it starts to wane?
بَيناwhile تَراهُyou see it كَخُشكُنانِكةٍlike a khushkunanika sweet pastry
بَينا تَراهُ كَخُشكُنانِكةٍ
حَتّىuntil تَراهُyou see it كَأَنَّهُas though it were قُرصَهa round loaf
حَتّى تَراهُ كَأَنَّهُ قُرصَه
One moment you see it like a khushkunanika pastry,
Little by little it becomes curved
then you see it as though it were a round loaf.
Until it looks like a thin sliver again
