وَمُهَفهَفٍand a slender-waisted one خَطَراتُهُhis swaying steps خَطَرُperil
وَمُهَفهَفٍ خَطَراتُهُ خَطَرُ
حوريُّhouri-like فيin لَحَظاتِهِhis glances حَوَرُcontrasting dark pupils and white sclerae
حوريُّ في لَحَظاتِهِ حَوَرُ
And a slender-waisted one whose swaying steps are peril;
His charming gestures are full of charm,
Houri-like, with dark-eyed beauty in his glances;
A houri in his moments of coquetry.
قَمَرٌa moon وَلَكِنand yet تَحتَهُbeneath it غُصُنُa branch
قَمَرٌ وَلَكِن تَحتَهُ غُصُنُ
غُصنٌa branch وَلَكِنand yet فَوقَهُabove it قَمَرُa moon
غُصنٌ وَلَكِن فَوقَهُ قَمَرُ
A moon, and yet beneath it is a branch;
A moon but underneath is a branch,
A branch, and yet above it is a moon.
A branch but above it is a moon.
