    O you who shame the full moon whenever it rises,

    and knight of the cavalry on every day of battle!

    I rejoiced in the robe of honor that wrenched out

    the hearts of your enemy and the envious one together.

    So say to your hater, if you prevail over him,

    a true saying that benefits whoever hears it:

    الفَخرُ فيمَن يُزَيِّنُ الخِلَعا

    Glory lies not in one whom robes of honor adorn;

    glory lies in one who adorns the robes of honor.
