قالواthey said حَبيبُكَyour beloved مَبذولٌfreely available فَقُلتُso I said لَهُمto them
قالوا حَبيبُكَ مَبذولٌ فَقُلتُ لَهُم
وَقَدand already تَرَقرَقَwelled up دَمعُtears العَينِof the eye وَاِنسَجَماand streamed down
وَقَد تَرَقرَقَ دَمعُ العَينِ وَاِنسَجَما
They said, “Your beloved is freely available,” so I said to them,
They said your lover is unfaithful, so I told them
while tears welled in my eye and streamed down:
While tears flowed from my eyes in streams
كَأَنَّهُas though he were الماءُwater مَبذولٌfreely available لِشارِبِهِto its drinker
كَأَنَّهُ الماءُ مَبذولٌ لِشارِبِهِ
وَماand not يُصابُis found لَهُfor it مِثلُan equal إِذاwhen عَدَماit is lacking
وَما يُصابُ لَهُ مِثلُ إِذا عَدَما
“He is like water, freely available to its drinker,
As if it was water offered to the thirsty
yet no equal to it can be found when it is lacking.”
Nothing like it will be found if it is gone
