By what the south and north winds have woven over them.

And hollows, like peppercorns.

Beside the tribe’s acacias, like one splitting colocynth.

My companions halted their mounts there over me,
Saying, “Do not perish from grief; bear yourself bravely.”
وإِنَّand indeed شِفائِيmy cure عَبْرَةٌa tear مُهْرَاقَةٌpoured forth

فَهَلْ عِنْدَ رَسْمٍ دَارِسٍ مِنْ مُعَوَّلِ؟
Yet my cure is a tear poured forth—
But can one find cause for weeping at an obliterated trace?

And fat like the twisted fringes of white silk.

And she said, “Woe upon you! You will make me go on foot.”

She said, as the howdah tilted with us together,
“You have hamstrung my camel, O Imru’ al-Qays; dismount!”
فَقُلْتُthen I said لَهَاto her:سِيْرِيgo on وأَرْخِيand loosen زِمَامَهits rein

ولاَand do not keep me تُبْعدِيْنِيfrom مِنْyour fruit جَنَاكِtwice tasted honey-sweetened drink or person whose company is enjoyed repeatedly (reading uncertain) [The phrase "جَنَاكِ المُعَلَّلِ" refers to the beloved's fruit/company that is enjoyed repeatedly; the exact nuance of "المعلل" can be 'given a second drink' or 'repeatedly enjoyed.' Here it is rendered concisely as 'twice-tasted fruit.' In a schema requiring one meaning per token, preserve the attached pronoun/conjunction. A better concise meaning: "your twice-enjoyed fruit". Let's fix array exactly tokens: ولا=and do not, تبعديني=keep me away, من=from, جناك=your fruit, المعلل=twice-enjoyed.] المُعَلَّلِtwice enjoyed
ولاَ تُبْعدِيْنِي مِنْ جَنَاكِ المُعَلَّلِ
I told her, “Go on, and loosen its reins,
And do not keep me from your twice-tasted fruit.

Distracting her from a yearling child wearing amulets.

And one day atop the dune she resisted me,
And swore an oath she would not retract.

With their two arrows into the broken heart’s very core.

Often I set out at dawn while the birds were still in their nests,
Upon a sleek, massive horse that shackles wild game:

Charging, fleeing, advancing, retreating all at once,
Like a boulder swept down from above by a torrent.

As a smooth stone slips beneath one descending.

Raise dust across the trampled hard ground.

When his heat boils within him, is a cauldron’s bubbling.

And whips away the robes of the heavy, violent rider.

By the turning of his hands with a joined cord.

He has a gazelle’s flanks and an ostrich’s legs,
A wolf’s long stride and a fox-cub’s quick pace.

His saddle and bridle remained upon him through the night,
And he stood all night before my eyes, not released.

Between a clan chief honored by both paternal and maternal kin.

Their laggards remained clustered, not dispersed.

He ran repeatedly between bull and cow,
Overtaking them, yet without sweating enough to be washed.

With a full tail just above the ground, not scant-haired.
