    O you two who aid me at Sayhan, may I be your ransom!

    Hasten the wine on the banks of Sayhan.

    بذاك خبرنا من كان أنبانا

    A noble river whose source is in Paradise;

    So we were told by the one who had brought us word.

    Do not envy me, at evening or early morn,

    The joy of walking along Sayhan from time to time.

    نفسي تقي ذلك الانسان انسانا

    On Sayhan’s bank is a person I have grown enamored of;

    My soul would shield that person from another person.

    لا شيء أطيب من رياه ريحانا

    His fragrance is our sweet basil, while the cup goes round;

    Nothing is sweeter in fragrance than his scent.

    Hasten your drinking until I see in you both

    Drunkenness—for I have already grown drunk this evening.

    The beloved’s scent and a cup of aged wine

    Stir sorrows in the lovesick lover’s soul.

    May rain fall on Sayhan, both river and homeland,

    And its inhabitants, whoever they may be.

    They are the ones—we forged bonds of love between them

    And ourselves, while they were in Marana Monastery.
