وكناand we were نرجيwe hope أنto نرىwe see العدلjustice ظاهراًprevailing
وكنا نرجي أن نرى العدل ظاهراً
فأعقبناthen overtook us بعدafter الرجاءhope قنوطdespair
فأعقبنا بعد الرجاء قنوط
And we had hoped to see justice prevail,
but after hope, despair overtook us.
متىwhen تصلحbe set right الدنياthe world ويصلحand become righteous أهلهاits people
متى تصلح الدنيا ويصلح أهلها
وقاضيwhile the judge of قضاةthe judges of المسلمينthe Muslims يلوطcommits sodomy
وقاضي قضاة المسلمين يلوط
When will the world be set right and its people become righteous,
while the Muslims’ chief judge commits sodomy?
