1. يا أكمل الناس طراً

    وأظرف الفتيان

    O most perfect of all people,

    And most charming of young men,

  2. بادر الينا لكيما

    تسقى سلاف الدنان

    Hasten to us, so that

    You may be served the choicest wine from the jars,

  3. على غناء غزالٍ

    مهفهف فتان

    To the singing of a gazelle,

    Slender and bewitching.

  4. اشرب على وجه جاني

    شرابك الخسر واني

    Drink as you gaze on Jani's face,

    Your Khosrowian wine.

  5. فما لها من نظيرٍ

    وما لها من مدان

    For she has no equal,

    And none comes near her,

  6. الا الذي هو فردٌ

    وما له من ثاني

    Except the one who stands alone,

    And has no second.

  7. أعني الهلال لستٍ

    في شهره وثمان

    I mean the crescent moon, six nights

    Into its month, and eight more.

  8. للناس بدرٌ منيرٌ

    يرى بكل مكان

    People have a radiant full moon,

    Visible in every place,

  9. وما لنا غير بدرٍ

    لدى ابي غسان

    But we have no full moon save one

    At Abu Ghassan's.

  10. ذكراه في كل وقتٍ

    موصولةٌ بلساني

    The mention of him, at every moment,

    Remains upon my tongue.

  11. سبيته وسباني

    فحبه قد براني

    I took him captive, and he took me captive;

    For love of him has worn me thin.

  12. من ثم لست تراني

    أصبو إلى انسان

    Hence you do not see me

    Yearning for anyone else.
