O Fawz, woe is me because of you, O cruel one!

You have tormented me unjustly; what I suffer is enough.

I see you three times a day, yet

I receive nothing but a cold glance.

By God, if you knew my story,

you would not then be content with my plight.

Rather, you would help me bear being far from home,

and be a compassionate healer to me.

    ظللتُ فيها مهجتي داميهْ

    You were ill for days and did not come out;

I spent those days with my heart bleeding,

asking people about you, seeking news,

distraught with longing, praying for your recovery,

until, when you recovered, O my heart's desire,

    God eased my suffering.

Good news, my heart! For now she has begun

to go each morning to her playground again.

    A queen among her peers—

oh, if only I were among her retinue!

O rose that sends forth its radiance,

flooding the universe from the hill,

O lady of the kerchief, from beneath it

springs a fount of beauty, abundant and pure.

I beseech you by Islam: do not kill

your brother in your faith, O cruel one!
