نَزيهةNaziha لَيسَthere is not للمنديلfor the handkerchief
نَزيهة لَيسَ للمنديل
فيماin what بَينناbetween us حاجَهa need
فيما بَيننا حاجَه
Naziha, there is no need for the handkerchief
Virtuous, the handkerchief needs us not
in what lies between us.
Between us no need for it exists
وَإِنand if سرَّكit pleases you أَنthat يَبقىit remain
وَإِن سرَّك أَن يَبقى
فَأَنواركthen your lights وَهّاجهblazing
فَأَنوارك وَهّاجه
And if it pleases you that it remain,
And though it pleases you for it to remain
then your lights are blazing.
Your radiance rages afire
فَياso, O مَنone who تَأمرcommands الحسbeauty (continued next line)
فَيا مَن تَأمر الحس
نfinal letter of الحسن (beauty) فَيلقيso it casts دونَهاbefore her تاجَهits crown
ن فَيلقي دونَها تاجَه
So, O you who command beauty,
So you who command the senses
making it cast its crown before you,
To cast off their crown before you
لَقَدindeed قَطّعتِyou have severed بِالدلwith coquetry (continued next line)
لَقَد قَطّعتِ بِالدل
لcompletion of the preceding word عُرىthe bonds قَلبيmy heart وَأَوداجهand its jugular veins
ل عُرى قَلبي وَأَوداجه
you have indeed severed, with coquetry,
With passion you have severed
the bonds of my heart and its jugular veins.
