رحمةُmercy اللَهGod عَليهupon him إِنَّهُindeed, he
رحمةُ اللَه عَليه إِنَّهُ
غالهslew him اليَأسُdespair وَكانَand he was الأَمَلاthe hope
غاله اليَأسُ وَكانَ الأَمَلا
May God's mercy be upon him, for he
May God have mercy on him, for despair overcame him
Was slain by despair, though he had been hope itself.
And he was ever hopeful
وَيحُwoe to قَومٍa people خَذَلوهthey forsook him بَعدَماafter
وَيحُ قَومٍ خَذَلوه بَعدَما
أَخَذواthey took الميثاقَthe pledge أَلّاthat not يُخذَلاhe be forsaken
أَخَذوا الميثاقَ أَلّا يُخذَلا
Woe to a people who forsook him after
Woe to the people who abandoned him after
They had taken a pledge that he would not be forsaken.
Taking an oath not to abandon him
شيمةhabit الغدرِbetrayal بِمَنagainst whoever يَنصرهمsupports them
شيمة الغدرِ بِمَن يَنصرهم
ذَهَبتhas become ياO اِبنَson of عليٍّAli مَثَلاa proverb
ذَهَبت يا اِبنَ عليٍّ مَثَلا
The habit of betraying those who support them
The trait of treachery against the one who helps them
Has become proverbial, O son of Ali.
Has passed, O son of Ali, as an example
آلfamily of بَيتِthe house of المُصطَفىthe Chosen One لَمhave not تبرحواyou ceased
آل بَيتِ المُصطَفى لَم تبرحوا
تَرِدونَyou approach المَوتَdeath فيin ظلِّthe shade of العُلىglory
تَرِدونَ المَوتَ في ظلِّ العُلى
O family of the Chosen One's house, you have never ceased
O family of Al-Mustafa, you did not cease
To meet death in the shade of glory.
Meeting death in the shadow of the lofty rank
كادَتalmost الكَأسُthe cup الَّتيwhich فيin قُبرصٍCyprus
كادَت الكَأسُ الَّتي في قُبرصٍ
تُشبهُresembles الكَأسَthe cup الَّتيwhich فيin كربلاKarbala
تُشبهُ الكَأسَ الَّتي في كربلا
