In Beirut they say, “You are blessed:

you sell them soil, and they give you gold.”

Our sister, wait! When was it a blessing

for thousands of people to be ruined so one man grows rich?

And the man who pays this money knows that he

passes it with his right hand to his left.

Besides, these are our homelands—what are their treasures

and their wealth, that they should be equated with our lands in worth?

And if my people had valor and chivalry,

then our lands would become a grave for those who covet them.

But they have chosen the easy way as their mount,

which whims steer, and have shunned the rugged way.

And my sorrow is only for a man of integrity

who undertakes the great revival for God's sake.
